Favourite Things of 2011
Glue in the business weave, it’s time for the Queen of Jordan episode of 30 Rock - a show which likes to play around with its format from time to time, but never to the hilarity of this. I think as an episode it’s kind of polarising - it takes the template of Bravo’s Real Housewives shows and uses it to follow Angie Jordan, Tracy’s brilliantly outrageous wife, and her friends as they prepare for Angie’s release party for her single “My Single is Dropping”, which is dropping.
If you get an enjoyment out of reality series, or even if you understand the concept and belittle it, this is hilarious; it gets it so correct, from the black & white flashbacks to the interviews to the camera. It doesn’t make that much sense that Angie’s friends, D’Fwan who is not just a gay hairdresser but a homosexual party planner and Randi and Portia, keep hanging about 30 Rockerfeller and are getting involved in the actual 30 Rock characters’ issues - but I don’t care. This is the funniest episode of TV to come out this year, and a zillion rewatches later and I can’t tire of it.
